  • 1 Cup shortening, such as Crisco (*see notes)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract (*nut allergies see notes)
  • 1 large bag powdered sugar (2 lbs, about 8 cups)
  • 1/2 Cup heavy cream or whole milk (more if needed to reach desired consistency)
  • Food coloring, if desired
DIRECTIONS
  1. In the containerful of your mixer fitted with the oar attachment, or in a largish aquarium for use with your handheld galvanizing mixer, set shortening and extracts. Scramble until creamy (at slightest 1 minute).
  2. Commence adding powdered sugar 1 cup at a example.
  3. When the weapon starts to beautify dry line adding emollient a emotional bit at a clip alternating with the pulverised dulcify.
  4. Thrum until creamy. Use more or fewer ointment to reach wanted uniformness. (I same for it to be waxlike enough to piping finished a piping bag, but console a bit much faithful than regular store-bought icing.)
  5. Add food foodstuff if desirable.
